Well this week it's a case of what's on the work table rather than the desk - as we are down in Cornwall in a rented house with Rich's family to celebrate his Mum's 80th birthday.
So this weeks arty stuff is happening on a table in the corner of the open plan living room dining room.
The weather has been mostly unkind so we have had time indoors to play with some painting. I finished adding the colour to the drawing I did of the Rubeckia in my garden and draw & painted some deep purple hydrandeas we saw at Lanhydrock on Sunday. The gardens there were stunning & loads to paint but the rain was threatening so not much time to do anything other than take photos (and pick up a few petals from under the bush as a colour sample).
They had the most amazing wooden doors which are also on my "must get around to painting" list !
Yesterday the weather did smile on us which was fortunate as we had pre-booked the helicopter from Penzance to Tresco in the Scilly Isles - we had booked the disabled buggy for Rich & we had a lovely day in the Abbey Gardens whilst his sister & family explored the Island.
The helicopters were smelly (diesel fumes) very noisy but exhilarating & with brilliant views of the coast & Bishops Rock Lighthouse. It was a great trip ! And sneaked a bit of sketching in too - struggling with perspective & building up to painting my sketches at some point !
Anyway have a great crafty & looking forward to seeing what you have been up to.
Wow - love your art work and looks like you're having a fab time despite the weather. The door photos are lovely - the bottom one would make an ideal rubber stamp!
ReplyDeleteIn answer to your questions - the dominoes I'm using are real dominoes complete with the spinner on them, but rather than sideline them from a proper set, I bought a whole set with the intent to alter them. One day, I'll buy a set to keep and will decorate the backs of the whole set to match! You can buy them as alterables but it's easy to look out for them on ebay.
Thanks for stopping by...
Love your art work too. Pretty flowers in your garden.

You draw and paint beautifully. A tidy desk is a focused desk. Love the doors in the garden too. THanks for popping by, keep smiling and creating
ReplyDeleteYour paintings are stunning, as are your photos xx
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures from your trip, I get too motion sickness to enjoy that helicopter ride, but I bet the views were fascinating! You asked me if the Donna Downey brush was hard to do, not once you figure out what you're planning, lol I think I have changed my mind 3 times since starting it! I can't wait to see her studio! waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)
ReplyDeleteHave fun painting!!! Gorgeous photos of your trip!

ReplyDeleteMy aunt lives in Cornwall, it is a beautiful place. Your pictures are gorgeous. I love the beautiful flowers you did, the colours are fabulous. Can't wait to see the paintings of the other photos. Thanks for visiting my blog. Never be afraid to paint big, my biggest so far is 4' x 3' and it was heaps of fun. I have a canvas that's over 6 foot, haven't decided what to paint on that yet, plus I'm only 5 foot so have trouble reaching to top :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great holiday.

Hi Ali....just catching up with all your lovely photos and inspiring artwork.
ReplyDeleteLucky you to visit Tresco! I am envious....
Sorry the weather didn't cooperate much in Cornwall as it's such a lovely place to visit. Beautiful water colour paintings, really pretty. Never been to the Isles of Scilly but I've never heard anything bad about the beautiful gardens there.

The holiday sounds wonderful even if the weather isn't being the kindest. You've given me inspiration to do something you won't beliece I hadn't thought of! I've been struggling with shading and colours etc and it never occurred to me to go out and copy what I see, or work from photos, or collect discreet samples. Admittedly my promarker colouring is generally fairies and the like but you've given me a lightbulb moment - thank you!
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated WOYWW. I have been trying to comment on your post since Wednesday morning, but for some reason it kept failing. Fingers crossed - this works. Hope you have had some sunshine in Cornwall. Shame about the cancellation of the Stamp Show - was thinking of going to that. We definitely need more events in South and West Wales. Ali x #55
ReplyDeleteGood grief, I hope that wasn't your fish supper!
ReplyDeleteYou know you're talking to a dedicated artist when she tells you that she picks up the odd petal to help her get the colours right...what a marvellous idea and wonderful detail! Glad the break is a good 'un, ach the weather is what it is.
Great post - I love doors - your paintings look beautiful. So glad you managed to find time to indulge in your hobby whilst away. Thank you so much for sharing and thanks for visiting me.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Neet xx
