WOYWW - Trying Card Making !

Hi hope everyone had a fun Jubilee weekend !
We didn't get the 2 bank holiday days off - but with the miserable weather it wasn't much of a hardship being at work !

I haven't made cards before but I fancied making a couple of cards for my Dad - for both Father's Day & his birthday which is also in June.

So I started with a decoupage card kit of one of Michael Powell's lighthouse scenes which was fun to do !

Then I got lured in by a set of die cuts & papers of Wellington Bear (as much as I love grunge - I do find that certain cute stuff always finds a way to creep up on me too !!!)  ... and then saw a girl-y set of gardening, cup-cakes & dresses type stuff which is not really my sort of thing but I liked the gardening scenes and thought I would make some for a friend's fund-raising craft stall.

And it all sort of just escalated from there ! So hence this week my desk is covered in cards !

I haven't really mastered the skill of getting all the layers lined up perfectly straight - if anyone who is into cards can tell me if I'm supposed to measure everything before I stick it down ?

I'm really much more of an "eyeball it" kind of a girl - maybe this isn't compatible with being a card maker ?!!

And I'm not sure I have the patience for measuring everything down to the millimetre !

Anyway - think my Dad won't mind a couple of slightly wobbly bits on his cards & he's the one who really matters !!!

Have a fun crafty week !

  4. Fabby cards, well done for getting all those finished. I have one of those lighthouse stamps too, might break it out later!

I managed to miss posting last week - would love to send you an ATC or even swap if you're up for it. Please let me know either via my blog or at hsalthouse@yahoo.com. Thanks!

  5. Fabulous cards, I could never tell that you are new to this! No, you don't have to measure at all. I stand to do mine, stand directly over the picture and then place down your piece. I use silicone glue because it gives you chance to move if it is wrong but if you do use sticky pads then coat them with a glue stick and it will allow you to slide the piece if you get it wrong. It will dry quickly so don't take too long if you use the glue stick method. Hope that helps. Happy WOYWW, Anne x #24

  8. Super picture and cards. I use wet glue for decoupage so I can wiggle it around! I go for the by eye look too! Take care my WOYWW friend. Zo xx 65

  11. Hi Ali, just to answer your further question, try practising on some spare card/paper. I use Pinflair glue, it is silicone without the smell and they have a syringe type thing that you fill. It is then quite easy to use small blobs (technical term!) rather than big ones straight from the tube. The best thing is to give it a go and see what happens. Good luck. A x

  12. Well good for you and welcome to card making! I can't help..I don't measure before sticking down..I measure the pieces if they need to be equal, bt then rely on my years of bad practice to actually stick it right. Repositionable tape........

  13. I'm sure your Dad will be thrilled with a hand-made card, wobble or no wobble. I don't measure, just stand over it, lift one leg and close one eye - probably why my eye is wonky this week.

Thanks for calling in on me earlier - much appreciated.

  14. You mean to tell me there are people who measure??? No ways, where is the fun in that? Isn't it supposed to be handmade? LOL
For somebody that doesn't make cards you are very productive. Love the cards.
    Happy WOYWW

  15. I'm an eyeball it ginda gal too when it comes to card making, especially in the placement of images or sentiments! I haven't done decoupage before but yours look really lovely to me and I'm sure your dad will appreciate them anyway. I always say "if you want perfection buy something from Clinton's"!!
