WOYWW - Back Home in the Rain !

Well that's the holiday in Spain over - great fun with our friends in Madrid & then down in Murcia. Can't really claim it was chilling out as the temperatures hit over 40oC most days !
Back to Wales with a bump - rain, rain, rain as usual !
My team from work were running our annual BBQ for farmers up at the Royal Welsh Show yesterday - and got drenched - again much as usual ! Still we had fun despite the weather & still smelling of BBQ smoke despite several sessions in the shower since !

On my craft desk this week is the makings of a project using those beer mats ! I've had this set of lovely tree stamps for a while but not done anything very much with them - so I'm trying for a layered canvass of the trees through the seasons - I'm going to try stamping onto tissue paper & then added them onto the mats - not something I've tried before - just read about. Not sure if I should colour/ distress ink the stamped images on the tissue before sticking down - or will it just run like mad ... anyone got any thoughts - all advice welcome ?
Also I have a tub of Acrylic Gel Medium - should I use this to stick them down ?

Of course I did manage to find the one stamping stall at the Royal yesterday - Oyster Stamping - and on the edge on my desk you can see the new Martha Stewart punches that I couldn't resist & a couple more Smooch Inks too - and with Distress Inks at 3 for £10 - how could I not add to my collection !

Happy Wednesday - looking forward to browsing some of your desks later !

  2. 3 fora tenner eh? Even I would have bought some for that!! I do not know what to say aboutt he tissue paper and glue and ink conundrum..except any dye ink will run if you wipe glue over it, but someone on WOYWW will know for sure! Have fun though - like the prepped beer mat colours already.

  7. I just stamp straight on the beer mat ... but if you want to do the tissue trick ... just use archival ink ... it does n't run ... I usually stick with CH multi matt medium ... works a treat on canvas! have fun ... I can't wait to see the finished mats!

  8. I like the sound of the book - great idea - I'm a bit of a tree fan myself. I stamp directly onto beer mats, too but I'd use Stazon on tissue - Archival is a bit hit and miss for me.

  10. What a great way to use those beer mugs. The trees will be a great addition. For tissue, you can use glue stick, since it's so thin. Like napkins, put your glue on the accepting surface, not the tissue. Save the pricey gel medium for other projects. Happy WOYWW.

  15. ooh pleas etell me where you got the tress stamps so I can get me some,

    the tissue?

any medium will reactivate most dyes so it will 'move' or blur,, but I have stamped with stazon onto hand made papers and tissues and then used matte or gloss medium (galeria not mod podge) and it all stays sharp...

if it is horrid put clear gesso over let it dry and start agin...

ot Look at Leandra's post today and see if you wna tot try the white spray thingie that works really quicka nd dead easy - we did it at the artsy craft weekend and it really is a ten second wonder after you have spent the half hour shaking it....

  17. Sorry I'm rather late in calling in. It's been really manic here the last few days and I had to pop to see my elderly neighbour in hospital last night [only a 62 mile round trip!].
Some really fab goodies on show this week. Glad you had a good holiday in Spain.

  19. Hi Ali,
Not aware of any craft groups around here. There is a shop a few miles away which has workshops but its mainly decoupage, peel offs and basic jewellery making, which is not really my thing so I haven't been. I work full time so I'm not fully up to date with what's going on in the area. I must put it on my list of things to do.
It would be good to keep in touch and my email is on my profile if anything comes up.

    xx

  20. i like your idea of trees through the seasons but since i don't have any of your distress inks or Acrylic Gel Medium, i can't give any advice, although layering is great because you can just keep on until you are happy with what you see.

  21. Oo wow I'd love to come and play at your desk. My mum keeps tormenting me with her MS punches, I can borrow them if I go round there but I have to leave them behind - how mean is that? (she just knows she might not get them back hehehe)

  23. Oh, I really do love the idea of the layered canvas. You know what's funny? I'd just recently spied a comment on a yahoo group that someone was trying stamping with tissue paper and I thought that sounded like fun and would give it a whirl - but now I am doubly reminded that I want to try that with a certainitude. I think that I like the way you think.

  24. Those tree stamps look interesting, you've reminded me of something I have tucked away in a drawer somewhere. I'll have to have a search!
Sorry about my tardy visit, but I've been slightly hors de combat since Wednesday.
    Have a great weekend.
